An Ark Unlike Any Other

Being one of the first prototypes of the ARKs launched into space, Eden was mainly a testing ground for the creatures and ecosystems that were going to be implemented within the other ARKs. As a result, Eden is one of just a few ARKs with so many diverse biomes. The Overseer of Eden was to only observe the interactions between the different species of this ARK, and to make adjustments as necessary. With the end goal of the ARKs in mind, creatures from Earth were cloned on Eden to examine how the species created solely on the ARKs would interact with them once they are returned to the ground. In doing so, a Tek City was included to simulate part of the environment they expected to find once they returned.
Eden was never intended for humans to exist here, though it still had obelisks with access to boss arenas, which were also tested here before being implemented into the other ARKs. Even when the other ARKs were reworked to add humans into the list of species to be created on them, Eden was still unchanged due to its ‘testing ground’ status. And that’s how it was for a millennium, barren of human life.

But then they arrived. A glitch in the code. Humans began to show up at an increasing rate on Eden, all waking up dazed and confused and struggling to survive. At its peak, Eden had a few hundred survivors inhabiting it. These survivors banded together into multiple tribes and factions. Since the amount of resources on Eden was plentiful, a multitude of cities and temples arose. Humans from all different time periods, both past and future, inhabited all corners of the ARK. This resulted in some unique architecture, but also brought conflicting beliefs that often ended in armed conflict. It did not take the survivors long to learn that this place wasn’t natural, considering there were mysterious floating obelisks all over the place. They began to get curious. And curiosity leads to wonder, and wonder leads to testing. And testing is what they did.
The survivors wanted to break free of their prison. They did not know what awaited them outside of their trap, but they knew it was something more. They believed the only way to do this was to destroy the obelisks that seemed to power this entire ARK. Somehow, they damaged one enough that it shutdown. Without its power, it crashed into the landscape of the ARK. Soon after, massive earthquakes and volcanic eruptions began to plague Eden, and parts of the sky flickered as it malfunctioned. Radiation began to infect the atmosphere of Eden, seeping in from outer space.

In a last-ditch effort to attempt to heal the wounds that the survivors inflicted onto the ARK, the obelisks caused part of the ground to cave in, revealing a large belowground cavern that extended into the heart of the ARK. Somehow, the radiation was sucked down into the deepest depths of Eden, where it was sealed away to make the surface once again inhabitable. The hole also allowed for gaseous pressure to escape from within the ARK, allowing for the earthquakes and volcanic eruptions to finally cease.
Eden eventually healed, but the scars still remained. The hole was still existent, granting all the life on the ARK access to a world previously unknown to them. A new world filled with radiation and new dangers. The multiple earthquakes that struck the ARK caused a large swath of land to collapse in, creating a rift. This dead zone eventually became a boundary between a lush world and a scorched world. The humans abruptly disappeared from Eden shortly after the ARK saved itself, leaving behind small remnants of their presence here on the ARK and clues as to where they may have gone. Since then, no human has existed on Eden for centuries. Until now.

What Cool Stuff Will Eden Have?

New Creatures

New creatures unique to Eden will be included in a companion mod which is already available on the Steam Workshop. This mod will include some creatures from Atlas that are ported over and edited to fit into certain unique niches within the world of Ark to create a more diverse experience. In addition, there will be a few custom creatures created for this map, such as Maiasaura, Edmontosaurus, and a cute little fox to name just a few. If you are subscribed to both the map and the companion mod, the creatures will all spawn in naturally.

Unique Weather Events

Eden will have a few custom weather events. These currently will include an eclipse, meteor shower, volcanic eruption, thunderstorm, northern lights, and acid rain. In addition to these, there will be some weather events from other maps, such as windstorms, earthquakes, sandstorms, and heat waves.

About The Developer

My name is Dustin from Purely Evolved Gaming Studios, and I am the sole developer of Eden. I work full time as a laboratory scientist at a medical supply company. I develop this map in my spare time, so progress will be dependent on my available time as I am not working on it 24/7. Understand that this is my first time modding, and I am still learning. Things will be rough from the start, but should get better as I keep learning more. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about the map of Eden and I hope you enjoy your time on this map!
